I have spent the past three days crying, devastated. An online friend just found out her daughter has terminal cancer. Her daughter is two and a half, just like Skyla. I can’t wrap my head around the pain and anger and hurt the family is going through. My mind is stuck and I just want to take it away. I am praying like crazy to God to help. For a miracle. For a chance.

The doctor’s are saying there is no time, no chance, nothing. I am so sad. My heart hurts and hurts and breaks. I wish I could swoop up their family and make it all go away. I feel like it is not fair. I know it is not fair. It is not right. She is two. She has a baby sister. She deserves to grow up. She shouldn’t have to be in hospitals and know of this pain.

I just can not understand.

yes, I know, I fail at blogging. But in my defense, there is not much going on. If you don’t count the typical day to day stuff…which in my life, is what makes up our LIFE. Okay, now I am confusing myself.

I will just start with my beautifulwonderfulexciting Sunday. Yesterday it is pouring and usually I love the rain, want to dance in it, show Skyla how to hold the raindrops, lavish the gray clouds. But this is no ordinary day I tell you. It was out to get me. Oh and boy did it.

Sky wasn’t feeling well. She had an on and off fever and took a 30 minute nap around 10:30 am. When she woke up we decided to go to the grocery store – which is one of the things I MOST despise. Off we go…only to stop about four miles down the road.

Out of gas.

Grrr…so I call wonderful hubby and tell him that I possibly might have for sure ran out of gas. He speeds to our rescue and follows me to the nearest gas station after filling my tank with a wee-bit-o-gas for our lawn mower. Now remind you, it is pouring, I was on the side of the road, sitting there, with a baby who just hates being in her carseat and she isn’t feeling well. See where I am going with this?

Needless to say, Chance came back home and I am off to the grocery store – again. This time we made it there. Pouring rain + baby + grocert cart – jackets = running as FAST as one can into the store. We shop, take our time, while other shoppers look at Sky with love. Hey, she can’t help it, she is just that cute! As she toddles through the aisle, attempting to pull every box/carton/pack of whatever is on the bottom shelf off of the shelf…it takes us one hour to buy a few items.

So we get in line and I notice it is now raining harder. No problem. We run out to the Jeep, I put her in the back seat and load the groceries. By this time I am soaked, my pants are soaked and I am in a terrible mood. We drive home slowly. Get home and put away groceries. Whew, what a day.

Things I learned today:

1. I can not drive 30 miles after my gas gage goes on…only 28 miles.

2. Shopping in the rain is fun, it’s putting the bags into the vehicle that is not fun.

Rewind – Back to Halloween!

So, I know I am not as good about keeping up with this thing, but I am going to try harder!! So, back to Halloween, which is where I left off. I will post a little bit at a time until I am current! Yea : )

Let’s see…

Halloween was funtastic! Haley was a “gothic dark fairy” & still managed to look beautiful under all that makeup : ) Skyla was our little monkey, of course. They were both so very adorable! Skyla even went up to houses with her daddy and sister. We walked around the hood with my family.

A few days before Halloween, we took the girls to Schnepf’s Farms and had a great night out as a family. I have to post our spooky picture! Notice the images in the background, this is totally not set up. Frightening!

So Skyla’s First Halloween went well and this year it was nice to not be as big as a pumpkin!!

My girls are growing up…

I can not get over how time flies. I say this all the time. I will turn and look at Chance and say, “I can’t believe it has gone by soooo fast…” Seriously though. This time last year I was waiting, counting down the days until my due date. Hoping that Skyla would join our family. I was getting incredibly impatient. Uncomfortable. And if you ask Chance, unbearable : ] Hey, I just wanted her here!

But as I look back…it has gone by fast. ZOOMED. And I blinked and now she is almost one. Haley is almost 8. And our family is doing better than ever. Just thought it would be fitting to take a walk down memory lane.

So much time has gone by and I have realized I suck at blogging. I don’t have a lot of free computer time, so this has not been quiet what I imagined : ] Just a quick update:

Skyla is now 10.5 months old and has 7 teeth! She is “walking” and still my quiet baby girl. She is just growing up so fast. I will say she is set in her ways, wonder where she gets it from?

Haley is doing GREAT in second grade, the first quarter will be over next week and then we get two weeks off. She wants to join tae kwan do again, so I will have to check into places out here for her to enroll in. She wanted to do softball, but that was a no go…not enough kiddos signed up. She loves her sissy and wrote her just the cutest letter today at school.

As for the rest, it will fall into place. I feel over whelmed at times and kind of lost at times. But then I just look at my girls and know that things will work. I am so exhausted all the time, not from lack of sleep, but just worry maybe. Those darn bills! Oh well.

Skyla’s First Step

So lots of first these days. Tonight, Skyla took her first step into my arms. So in the last month, here is what little Missy has been up to:

Saying dada and mama.

She waves byebye and says bye.

She plays peek-a-boo, seriously, the cutest thing in the world. I will have to upload a video of it.

She constantly pulls herself up on stuff.

She has **6** teeth now! Three new ones at once this past week : ]

And now – her first step!

I am amazed at how much they grow. Seriously. Wow!! And we couldn’t be more proud of her. Haley just adores everything she does. And she tells her “I am so proud of you!” Sisters are freakin awesome! Love it!

Skyla’s Contagious Mood

This morning started early - boom, Skyla is up. Yes, it is 6 AM on a Sunday morning. She is so freaking smiley that I can’t help but smile with her, even if all I want to do is lay back down and go back to bed.

But she is up and wanting to play. Now, I tell you, no matter where we go, everyone stops us. They comment on her smile, her eyes, how beautiful she is. She has this gravitational pull that stops young and old.

New Siggys

On JM [Justmommies.com] we put a siggy so people can see what we & our little ones look like. Well, this week I requested one and got two! They are very adorable and I wanted to show you!

Aren’t they adorable! They were made using the pictures of the girls from Sears. I, of course, ordered WAY too many! Anyway, just wanted to quickly share with you!

Pumping

So I have been pumping on the regular since Skyla was 11 weeks old and I had to go back to work. At first I loved the fact that I could give her breastmilk even when I wasn’t able to stay home with her. It was my 15 minutes six times a day when I could just sit and relax. I was nervous to pump at work. I work at an elementary school. There was no designated “pumping” room. I just pumped in my locked classroom : ] My goal was 6 months. Sky is now (almost) 9 months old and I am tiring of the routine. I know that it is only 15 minutes four times a day now, but I really am getting tired of always being hooked up to a pump. I am pumping as I type this!!

I am trying to make it to one year. I will be okay with myself if I make it to 10 months at this time. I really don’t think pumping mommies get the credit they deserve. So much more is involved with pumping than it seems. You have to buy the pump (I have bought two because my first one broke). But you have to take it everywhere with you. Clean the pump. Make sure you have bottles, tubing, a cold storage place. I could go on and on. One of the things that really got to me was making sure I was producing enough. During her growth spurts I went through my freezer stash in days!! She did have about twenty bottles of formula in her 9 months of life, simply because I couldn’t keep up!!

When the time comes to “hang up the horns” as they say, I will bid farewell to the pump that has been here as long as Skyla. It is a routine, a habit now. Not one that I will miss. I am happy that I was able to do this for her and she loves her baba. But boy, three months from now (I hope) I can put it up!!

Two Weeks Down – barely

So we have been in school for two weeks now. It is very interesting, to say the least. The first week was great. I only had two classes with four kids each. These week it is chaos. Not because of my kiddos, but because of scheduling errors. Some kids are not in my class anymore, I am getting more kids every day. So I have re-explain everything, which is a pain in the butt. I will know for next year – if I teach reading – again, how to set up my class. I will do it myself. Thank you very much. It is just so much wasted time. My kids have to sit there while I re-explain and then they get antsy. Whew! Not to mention I have some kiddos with massive problems…but whatever, that is my job, to reach them and teach them. I won’t know if I like this new position or not until things calm down. I hope they do soon.

Also, last week Skyla was sick. They diagnosed her with an ear infection. She had a fever for two days above 101 so I took her in. They said her ears look good, did a strep throat culture : [ and then an xray. Said everything looked good. Just a virus. But then the Dr. came in and gave me a script an ear infection : [ Ok, do they just write prescriptions to people so they don’t get mad for coming in for nothing?! I totally don’t get it. So we gave her the meds for three days before it dawns on me that she has a virus and hey, you can’t treat a virus with antibiotics. So we stopped, which I know is wrong, but I really don’t think they should have given them to her in the first place.

I looked at her discharge orders and it says she has an ear disorder. Ok, really? What is that?? So totally confused, but hey, she doesn’t have a temp anymore and is her usual happy self.

Fast forward to this Monday. Haley comes home from school with a headache, fever, chills. Wakes up at night sick. Sick, sick, sick on Tuesday morning. I take her to the ER. Where she is tested for Meningitis!! Talk about a mother’s worst nightmare. I was shaking from just the thought. Five minutes later they tell me she has a virus too. Ok, now I am making connections. She had a 103.1 fever and after an hour or so it is down to 100 or so and they send us home. With a script!!!! Ahhh. I am now understanding the medical profession a bit more. They prescribe medicine – which is NOT needed – to parents so they feel like they have a handle on the situation – or sickness. In reality, the meds are doing nothing, but at least the parents get to feel like they didn’t waste $$$ and time off work and away from home for nothing. Maybe I am missing something there. This blog – like all my others – has totally turned into a different alley than what I originally planned to write about. Maybe I can focus more in the future, until then I will just ramble : }
